We often work in concert with paintings conservators to restore gilded frames. This belonged to a private owner. For museum pieces, we do not often apply new gilding, as this compromises the original art; we make museum frames appear integral and presented in keeping with their time period.
For this frame, however, we opted to regild, as there was nothing left of the original gold surface (in consultation with the owner).
